Position Highlights

Summary

  • The Physical Therapist Assistant provides physical treatment procedures to help improve mobility and relieve pain and disability caused by disease or injury under the direction of the Physical Therapist

General Hours of Work

  • Monday through Friday (days, with evening/weekend/holiday involvement; shift length varies based on staffing and patient needs)

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent from accredited physical therapy assistant school.  Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.

Certificate, Licenses, Registrations

  • Iowa Physical Therapist Assistant Certification required. Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date.  This position requires a valid driver’s license and must carry their own automobile liability insurance.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for attending daily huddle, Medicare, and care plan meetings for those residents on therapy caseload (other meetings may be attended with approval of Therapy Manager if required).
  • Preforms screens on a quarterly basis on residents and communicate findings with nursing staff and therapy staff as indicated.
  • Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist in all patient activities and supervises activities as assigned.
  • Assists in initial assessment through data collection from a variety of sources such as patient records, interviews, observations, and team members.
  • Implements treatment programs for individual patients by using selected activities, exercises, tasks, or modalities to promote and maintain health and to achieve patient goals.
  • Modifies treatment programs as appropriate and necessary within the scope of the overall treatment plan and goals.
  • Prepares written documentation and other reports as required.
  • Assists with the identification of the need for adaptive equipment and training in order to help patients regain physical and cognitive functions.
  • Works cooperatively with other hospital departments to ensure accurate and timely communication of patient needs.
  • Maintains departmental policies and procedures and quality assurance programs.
  • Assists with in-service programs to nursing staff regarding PT services as requested.
  • Recommends and develop new services within the scope of resources.
  • Assists in the maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
